A shooting in the Stoney Point neighborhood of Cedar Rapids late Friday night prompted a large law enforcement response and caused significant traffic disruptions as emergency crews flooded the area.
According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, officers were called to the scene after reports of gunfire in the residential neighborhood. Upon arrival, authorities discovered one individual suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to a local hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.
Police say another person sustained minor injuries while attempting to flee the area during the chaos. That individual was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses reported heavy police presence, with multiple fire trucks, ambulances, and patrol cars blocking off portions of the neighborhood. Caution tape surrounded several intersections as investigators worked late into the night to gather evidence. Residents described a tense scene, with officers urging people to remain indoors as roads were shut down for safety.
“This was supposed to be a fun Halloween night for families, but it quickly turned frightening,” said one nearby resident, who described hearing multiple gunshots followed by sirens.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim or any information regarding a possible suspect. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department is urging anyone with information or video footage from the area to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
