Manchester Synagogue knife Attack Leaves 2 Dead, 3 Seriously Injured on Yom Kippur. Two people have died and three others are in serious condition after a stabbing and car attack outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they were called shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2. A car had been driven into worshippers, and a man and a security guard were stabbed. Police confirmed two victims had died. The suspected attacker was shot by GMP firearms officers and is also believed to be dead, though confirmation is pending due to suspicious items on his body. A bomb disposal unit was deployed. Authorities said a large number of worshippers were inside the synagogue during the attack. GMP praised a bystander whose quick action prevented the attacker from entering the building. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident “all the more horrific” given its timing on Yom Kippur. King Charles also expressed shock and praised the swift response of emergency services. Police said the attack has caused “significant shock and fear” across communities. Security has been increased at synagogues throughout Greater Manchester.
