Detectives are investigating a Thursday evening shooting that left a man dead in Norfolk, sending ripples of grief and concern through the community. The incident occurred around 5:22 p.m. on October 30, when officers on patrol near East Olney Road heard several gunshots and rushed to investigate.

Responding officers discovered 56-year-old John L. Howard Sr., a Norfolk resident, suffering from critical injuries in the 800 block of East Olney Road. Emergency personnel rendered aid at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, Mr. Howard succumbed to his injuries, according to the Norfolk Police Department.
Authorities immediately launched a comprehensive investigation to determine what led to the shooting. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage, collecting forensic evidence, and interviewing witnesses in hopes of piecing together the events leading up to the tragedy. As of now, police have not released information regarding any possible suspects or motives.
