Authorities have identified 84-year-old Noach Klein of Williamsburg as the victim of a tragic pedestrian crash in Borough Park on Wednesday evening. The incident, which occurred near the intersection of 49th Street and 18th Avenue, also left another man injured and has prompted renewed calls for improved pedestrian safety in the neighborhood.

Noach Klein CAR ACCIDENT
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), officers responded to the scene shortly after 6:30 p.m., following reports that two pedestrians had been struck by a 2018 Ford Transit van operated by a 38-year-old driver. Preliminary findings indicate that both men were crossing the street when the van hit them.
Emergency crews quickly arrived and rendered aid to the victims. Klein was transported to Maimonides Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts. The second pedestrian, a 54-year-old man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, officials confirmed.
Video footage from the scene showed first responders assisting the injured and securing the area. A hat and a pair of broken glasses were seen on the ground, underscoring the force of the collision. The driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with police. No arrests or citations have been issued at this time, and the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Investigators are working to determine whether factors such as lighting, road conditions, or pedestrian visibility contributed to the incident. Early reports suggest that neither speeding nor impairment were involved. Residents described the intersection as busy and challenging for pedestrians, particularly during evening hours. Safety advocates have previously urged city officials to implement traffic-calming measures and enhanced crosswalk protections in that area.
Community members expressed deep sorrow over Klein’s death, remembering him as a kind, respected, and active member of the Williamsburg community. As condolences pour in, the tragedy serves as a solemn reminder of the ongoing need for pedestrian safety awareness in New York City. Authorities are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage related to the crash to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers to assist in the investigation.
