The community of Jayess, Mississippi, is mourning the loss of Clay Coon, age 50, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Born on September 3, 1975, in McComb, Mississippi, Clay was the beloved son of Jerry and Sylvia Coon, and his passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Clay lived a life filled with kindness, humility, and compassion. A proud member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church, his faith guided him throughout his journey and influenced the way he cared for others.
Clay was a 1994 graduate of Parklane Academy, where he was known for his warm personality and dedication both in the classroom and on the baseball field. His love for sports carried into his college years, as he continued his education at Southwest Mississippi Community College and later at Delta State University.
During his youth, Clay stood out as an outstanding baseball player, earning admiration from teammates and coaches alike for his sportsmanship and determination.
Outside of his athletic and academic accomplishments, Clay was known for his gentle spirit and deep love for animals. Friends often recalled his compassion for every living creature, a quality that reflected his caring and empathetic heart.
He was also a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan, remaining loyal to his team through every season, whether in victory or defeat. Sundays during football season were sacred to Clay, who loved sharing the excitement of the game with family and friends.
Those closest to him describe Clay as someone who valued relationships and cherished time spent with his loved ones. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a warm smile, and a giving nature that made him beloved by everyone he met.
He found joy in simple moments — good conversations, laughter with friends, and quiet time outdoors — all of which reflected his appreciation for life and gratitude for God’s blessings.
One of the most selfless acts of Clay’s life came just before his passing. True to his compassionate nature, he chose to become an organ donor, a decision that is already making a profound impact.
His family recently learned that Clay’s gift of life will help at least 10 individuals on waiting lists receive the organs they desperately need. Through this remarkable act of generosity, Clay continues to bless others even after his passing — a legacy of love and kindness that will live on forever.
Clay was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Alvie Coon and Hewitt Cothern, and his grandmothers, Zula Mae Coon and Elon Sylvia Boyd Cothern.
He is survived by his loving parents, Jerry and Sylvia Coon of Jayess, MS; his brother Scott Coon and sister-in-law Maria Coon of Fort Worth, TX; nephews Matthew Clay Coon (Olivia) and Nolan Coon (Kelsie); niece Madelyn Coon (fiancé Matt Hartzell); and great-nephew Cooper Coon, all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
