According to officials, at approximately 3:14 p.m. on October 27, the LaPorte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received a call from a pedestrian who discovered a body lying in a ditch along the 700 block of Indiana State Road 212. Officers from the Uniform Patrol Shift 2 and the Traffic Division responded to the scene, where they found Wyse deceased from fatal injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Wyse was walking southbound on State Road 212 when he was struck by a vehicle also traveling south. The driver of that vehicle fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving Wyse behind. Investigators closed the roadway for several hours as they processed the scene, collected evidence, and worked to determine the vehicle’s identity.

Detectives from the Investigative Division are leading the ongoing investigation, with assistance from several agencies, including the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, Trail Creek Police Department, Long Beach Police Department, Michigan City Fire Department, and the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Lead investigator Officer Daniel Revoir can be reached at (219) 874-3221 or via email at drevoir@emichigancity.com. Tipsters can also contact police anonymously through Facebook Messenger, the crime tip hotline at (219) 873-1488, or the WeTip Hotline (800) 78-CRIME, with potential rewards for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Police emphasized that there is no known threat to public safety at this time. However, they are asking for the community’s help in identifying the vehicle or driver responsible for this devastating incident.

As the investigation continues, the Michigan City community mourns the loss of Gregory Wyse — a life tragically cut short. Authorities hope that with public assistance, justice will soon be served for Gregory and his loved ones.
