Deputies responded around 12:37 p.m. to the 4600 block of West State Route 41 after receiving reports of a serious collision involving injuries. When emergency crews arrived, they found a Toyota Highlander that had gone off the roadway with heavy front-end damage. The driver, Storm Mote, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say a Kenworth semi-truck with an attached trailer was also involved in the crash. The truck came to rest off the south side of the road. The semi-truck driver was transported to Kettering Health Troy with non-life-threatening injuries.

A witness traveling behind the truck told deputies that Mote’s vehicle crossed the center line, leading to a head-on collision. The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate and has collected witness statements, roadway evidence, and vehicle data to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Authorities emphasized the importance of driver awareness and caution, especially on rural and high-speed roads like State Route 41. The crash serves as a tragic reminder of how quickly lives can change on the roadway.

Storm Mote’s death has deeply affected the local community, with friends and family mourning the loss of a young life taken far too soon.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information to come forward as they work to complete their investigation.
