Authorities are investigating a tragic hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist late Saturday night, October 25, 2025, in Lexington. According to the Lexington Police Department, officers responded to reports of an injury crash involving a vehicle and a bicycle around 11 p.m. near Georgetown Street and Price Road, not far from New Circle Road.
When officers arrived, they found the cyclist, later identified as 59-year-old Jose Luis Hernandez Sosa, suffering from severe injuries. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Sosa was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. According to the coroner’s report, his cause of death is listed as “presumed multiple blunt force traumatic injuries.” An autopsy is pending.
Police confirmed that the driver responsible for the collision fled the scene before first responders arrived. Investigators are now working to locate the suspect vehicle and determine the circumstances that led to the crash. The Lexington Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to gather evidence and review nearby surveillance footage in hopes of identifying the driver.
