CALCASIEU PARISH, LA —** A 48-year-old DeQuincy man was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash early Saturday morning in what deputies described as a **“tragic but preventable”** accident. **Louis Pool** was found partially ejected from his pickup truck on **Big Woods Starks Road**, his body hanging halfway out of the wreckage. Investigators believe he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash—a factor they say likely turned a survivable accident into a fatal one.
According to the **Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office**, Pool had been traveling south when his pickup drifted off the right side of the road. In an attempt to correct his course, he reportedly **oversteered**, causing the truck to cross both lanes and roll over before coming to rest in the opposite ditch. Deputies and emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Crash investigators determined that Pool’s **partial ejection** was the direct cause of death, consistent with injuries sustained when a person is thrown from a rolling vehicle. Authorities said that wearing a seatbelt might have kept him restrained inside the cab and potentially saved his life.
Only hours later, tragedy struck again in **Sulphur**, where **37-year-old Randall Ravia** was killed in a separate rollover crash involving a side-by-side utility vehicle. Deputies reported that Ravia’s vehicle flipped during an apparent loss of control, underscoring the dangers of not using proper restraints and safety gear.
The sheriff’s office used the back-to-back fatalities to urge drivers and riders alike to prioritize safety—particularly the simple act of buckling up. “Seatbelts save lives,” one deputy said. “In both of these crashes, wearing one could have made all the difference.”The two deadly rollovers serve as grim reminders of how quickly a routine drive can turn into a tragedy.
