Authorities have identified 69-year-old Sherrie Ivie of Grantsville as the woman who tragically lost her life in a fatal crash on Interstate 80 earlier this week in Tooele County. The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, near mile post 99, and resulted in one death and critical injuries to another driver.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), Ivie was driving a maroon Ford Explorer when she crossed the center line and collided head-on with a green Ford F-150. The male driver of the F-150, a 61-year-old, was airlifted to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. His identity has not been released by UHP, and his current condition remains unknown.
The crash, which occurred during the afternoon hours, caused significant traffic delays along I-80 for several hours as emergency responders worked at the scene. Unfortunately, Ivie sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Utah Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident, and officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
Our thoughts are with the families of both individuals involved in this tragic event. The community is left mourning the loss of Sherrie Ivie, and we hope for a swift recovery for the male driver. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
