Emergency responders were called to the scene just before 9 a.m. near 12th Avenue and West 30th Street on the West Side of Manhattan. When firefighters and paramedics arrived, they found Sanchez unresponsive at the bottom of the pit. Rescue workers lowered a basket to reach him and performed CPR, but he showed no pulse or signs of breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Sanchez was employed by the New York Concrete Corporation and was working on the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing project, part of the Gateway rail infrastructure initiative.

In a joint statement, the Gateway Development Commission, Amtrak, and Related Companies expressed their condolences, saying, “Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the worker who suffered a fatal injury on the Hudson Yards project today. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and colleagues.”

The cause of the fall remains under investigation, and officials have not yet released further details about what led to the deadly incident.

Sanchez’s death marks yet another tragic reminder of the dangers faced by construction workers daily. As investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident, coworkers and loved ones are mourning the loss of a dedicated laborer who was simply doing his job.

In loving memory of Jorge Sanchez, whose life was tragically cut short. May his family and friends find strength and comfort during this heartbreaking time.
