A Halloween celebration turned tragic early Saturday morning after gunfire erupted during a large outdoor party near Maxton, leaving 13 people shot and two dead, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Halloween Party Turns Deadly
The mass shooting happened at a late-night event advertised as a “Halloween Party” on Dixon Drive near McGirt Gin Road, just outside Maxton. The party flyer, widely circulated on social media, promoted it as an all-night gathering with the tagline, “Ain’t no party like the dirt road party.” It also featured “FREE PJ, BYOB, and leave ya drama with ya mama!” — inviting guests to an event that was set to start at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24th.
Authorities say the event drew an estimated 150 people before chaos broke out. Witnesses described a sudden barrage of gunfire that sent partygoers running for cover. When deputies arrived, most of the crowd had already fled the scene.
Two Dead, Several Others Injured
Among the two people killed, one has been identified by friends and family as Nehemiah Locklear, a Robeson County native remembered for his kind heart and joyful spirit. Several others remain in critical condition at nearby hospitals as investigators continue piecing together what led to the deadly shooting.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public, describing the incident as an isolated event. However, no suspects have been named, and no arrests have been made as of Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff’s Office Seeking Witnesses
Investigators are urging anyone who attended the party or has video footage to come forward. “If you have photos or videos from the party, please share them with us,” authorities said. Submissions can be sent to newstip@thencbeat.com, and sources may remain anonymous.
The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine how many shooters were involved and what triggered the violent outburst that shattered what was meant to be a night of celebration.
