The Elgin community is heartbroken following the death of Holly Hill, a cherished teacher, wife, and mother who passed away this week at the age of 34, more than two and a half years after suffering catastrophic injuries from a restaurant’s alleged negligence.
Holly Hill Death Suddenly
Hill, a teacher at Elgin Upper Elementary School and a proud Elgin High School alumna, was known for her warmth, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her students. She was also a devoted wife to Brandon Hill and a loving mother of three children.
Her death has reignited calls for justice, as family and friends demand that the Comanche County District Attorney file criminal charges against Las Margaritas, a Mexican restaurant in Elgin, where the life-altering incident occurred.
According to those close to the family, Holly went to Las Margaritas for Valentine’s Day dinner more than two years ago. She ordered a margarita — but was allegedly served an industrial-grade degreaser instead of margarita mix. The toxic substance caused severe chemical burns to her mouth, throat, and esophagus.
Over the next two and a half years, Holly endured more than 60 medical procedures as doctors fought to repair the extensive internal damage. Despite her strength and determination, the physical suffering and medical complications continued until her untimely passing earlier this week.
A family friend shared on social media:
“Holly went out to eat for Valentine’s Day and ordered a margarita — not knowing it would forever change her life. She was served industrial degreaser instead of mix. She endured unimaginable pain, countless surgeries, and missed out on being the young wife and mother she deserved to be because of Las Margaritas’ negligence. Now, her family and friends will carry on her memory and fight for justice so her story is never forgotten.”
The tragedy has sparked renewed outrage in the community, with many urging local authorities to hold those responsible accountable. An online campaign calling for the Comanche County DA’s office to file charges against the restaurant has gained traction as tributes pour in from friends, colleagues, and former students.
In a statement shared with families, Elgin Public Schools Superintendent Nate Meraz expressed deep sorrow over Hill’s passing:
