Law enforcement officers swarmed San Fernando Senior High School on Thursday morning following reports of a possible active shooter on campus, prompting a full lockdown and warnings for the public to stay away from the area.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that officers were dispatched to the school shortly before 10 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire or a possible armed individual on school grounds.
Students and staff were immediately ordered to shelter in place, and the campus was placed on a hard lockdown as heavily armed officers conducted a room-by-room search. Nearby streets were closed, and a large perimeter was established around the school.
“Please avoid the area. Officers are on scene conducting an active investigation,” LAPD said in a brief statement on social media. “San Fernando Senior High School is currently on lockdown as a precaution.”
Helicopter footage from local news outlets showed police vehicles surrounding the campus, with officers guiding small groups of students to safety. Parents gathered nearby, anxiously awaiting updates from authorities.
Officials from the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) said they are cooperating closely with law enforcement and urged families not to come to the school while the investigation remains active.
As of early Thursday afternoon, there were no confirmed reports of injuries, but police said they are taking all reports seriously until the scene is fully cleared and secured.
“Our priority right now is the safety of the students, staff, and community,” said an LAPD spokesperson. “We’re asking everyone to remain patient and avoid the area until we have confirmed information.”
Emergency notifications were sent to students and parents through the district’s alert system, advising everyone on campus to remain in place until further notice.
