A man is in police custody following a fatal stabbing in Coolangatta on Thursday afternoon, after officers were alerted to reports of a man displaying “concerning behaviour” in the area.
Queensland Police said they were called shortly after 1 p.m. to Dutton Street, where witnesses reported seeing a man in his 20s acting erratically before fleeing the scene. When officers arrived, they discovered a man in his 50s suffering from severe stab wounds inside a nearby home.
Paramedics attempted to revive the victim, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Following a rapid investigation, police tracked the younger man north to an address in Upper Coomera, where he was taken into custody without further incident. Detectives believe the two men knew each other, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Two crime scenes were established on Thursday afternoon — one in Coolangatta, where the stabbing occurred, and another in Upper Coomera, where the suspect was arrested. Homicide detectives have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Authorities said charges have not yet been laid as investigations continue.
