The tight-knit communities of New Rockford, Maddock, Leeds, and Harvey are grieving the heartbreaking loss of Tucker Faul, a beloved New Rockford-Sheyenne/Maddock High School student and member of the Class of 2026, who was killed in a tragic crash Sunday evening.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 5:07 p.m. on North Dakota Highway 19, about nine miles northeast of Maddock. Authorities report that a juvenile driver in a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban was exiting a residential driveway and attempting to turn west onto the highway when the vehicle failed to yield to an oncoming 2006 Peterbilt truck hauling a flatbed trailer. The truck, driven by a 23-year-old man from Belvidere, South Dakota, struck the Suburban in a T-bone collision.
The Suburban came to rest in the south ditch, while the Peterbilt ended up in the north ditch. The juvenile driver — later identified by family and school officials as Tucker Faul — was wearing a seat belt but sustained fatal injuries. He was transported to Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, where he later died. The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation. Agencies responding to the scene included the Maddock Fire & Rescue, Maddock Ambulance Service, Harvey Ambulance Service, and the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
News of Tucker’s passing has left his school, teammates, and friends devastated. Known for his kindness, bright personality, and deep love for his community, Tucker is being remembered as a young man who brought joy and laughter to everyone he met.
The Devils Lake High School Firebird Family shared a heartfelt message of support, writing:

In a touching tribute, Camora Clothing Co. in Maddock invited residents to participate in a community initiative called “Fill Our Windows with Purple Hearts for Tucker Faul.”
“In loving memory of a bright young man gone too soon,” the business wrote. “Let’s come together as a community to show love and support for the Faul family, Tucker’s friends, fellow classmates, and the entire communities of Maddock, Harvey, New Rockford, and beyond.
