Millersville University is heartbroken to share the news of the untimely passing of Sydney Barnes, a junior biology major and a treasured member of the women’s golf team. Sydney passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, following a car accident in Greencastle, Pennsylvania.

Sydney was a shining presence on campus — a dedicated student, a passionate athlete, and a friend to many. As a three-year starter for the Millersville women’s golf team, she competed in 27 events and was instrumental in helping the team set a school record for wins during the 2025 season. Among her many highlights was a historic achievement as a freshman when she made the first hole-in-one in the program’s history, a moment that will be remembered by teammates and fans alike.
Her love for golf was matched only by her warm spirit and strong faith. Sydney’s joy and positivity, fueled by her deep Christian beliefs, were evident in everything she did. She was an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where she inspired others with her kindness and leadership.
Academically, Sydney was a remarkable student. She earned honors as a Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete, balancing her athletic commitments with a rigorous biology major.
Sydney’s impact extended far beyond the golf course. Her friendship, spirit, and dedication left an indelible mark on her teammates, coaches, and the entire Millersville community. Her loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
