The Fayetteville Police Department has announced charges in connection with the devastating crash that claimed the lives of three E.E. Smith High School students on October 8, 2025.
Dymond Nekiya Monroe Arrested
Following a detailed investigation and consultation with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, officers have filed multiple charges against 21-year-old Dymond Nekiya Monroe, of Fayetteville. Monroe faces:
Three counts of Involuntary Manslaughter
Willful Speed Competition
Speeding
Careless and Reckless Driving
Insurance Violation
Authorities say Monroe remains hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the collision. The Traffic Unit will coordinate with judicial officials once she is medically cleared.
During the investigation, officers identified a second vehicle, a 2023 Dodge Charger, believed to have been traveling alongside Monroe’s car at the time of the crash. The driver, 19-year-old Destini Rhinada Genwright, also of Fayetteville, has been charged with:

Careless and Reckless Driving
Insurance Violation
Police have seized the Dodge Charger and are urging Genwright to turn herself in. Officials also ask that family and friends assist in facilitating her surrender.
The fatal collision, which took three young lives, has left the Fayetteville community heartbroken. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and review all factors that led to the tragedy.
