A 66-year-old Stratford man has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death and then calling police to report the crime Monday evening.
According to Stratford police, Stanley Mulvey called the department’s dispatch center around 7 p.m., stating that he had stabbed his girlfriend and intended to harm himself. Officers were immediately dispatched to the couple’s residence at 86 Griffen Street.
Upon arrival, officers found Mulvey lying on top of an unresponsive woman later identified as Megan McShane, 61, on the kitchen floor. Both individuals were covered in blood, and a large kitchen knife was found nearby.
Police said Mulvey ignored repeated commands to move away from McShane, prompting officers to use physical force to remove him from the scene before taking him into custody.
A Stratford EMS paramedic arrived shortly afterward and pronounced McShane dead at the scene from multiple stab wounds.
Investigators reported that Mulvey made several admissions to officers, confessing that he had killed McShane. Police also confirmed that Mulvey is a convicted felon and had previously been arrested in May 2025 for a domestic violence incident involving McShane as the victim.
Mulvey was charged with felony murder and interfering with a police officer. He is being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 21, 2025.
The investigation remains ongoing.
