ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — The West Virginia State Police (WVSP) Elkins Detachment is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a woman who was found dead early Saturday morning on a road in Randolph County.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Back Road near Mill Creek. A driver traveling along the roadway contacted Randolph County 911, reporting that they had struck what they initially believed to be a deer lying in the road.
When first responders arrived, they discovered that the object in the roadway was not an animal but rather an adult female who was deceased.
Despite ongoing investigation efforts, officials have not yet been able to identify the woman or determine how she came to be in the roadway. Her body has been transported to the West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy and formal identification.
The WVSP Elkins Detachment continues to investigate and is urging anyone with information about the woman’s identity or the circumstances surrounding the incident to come forward.
