A tragic single-vehicle accident in Calhoun County claimed the life of 19-year-old Daniel Cuellar of Port Lavaca on Wednesday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Authorities said the crash occurred around 7:44 a.m. at the intersection of State Highway 35 and Farm-to-Market Road 2143 near Point Comfort. Cuellar was driving a silver Chevrolet Silverado westbound on FM 2143 when the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder. The truck lost control, entered a bar ditch, and collided with a tree.
The impact caused Cuellar to be ejected from the vehicle. Emergency crews quickly responded, and he was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Downtown in Houston for treatment. However, during the flight, the helicopter diverted to OakBend Medical Center in Wharton due to medical complications. Despite lifesaving efforts, Cuellar was pronounced deceased at 9:35 a.m.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
