A tragic incident unfolded early Tuesday at Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort in Bay Lake, Florida, after a person reportedly jumped onto the monorail tracks and was struck and killed.
According to multiple reports, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Reedy Creek Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Witnesses described a heavy law enforcement presence, with several sheriff’s units parked outside the Contemporary Resort and crime scene tape blocking off the service entrance area.
Authorities have confirmed that a body is being removed from the scene. While official details remain limited, early reports from guests and employees indicate that the individual fell or jumped from an upper level of the resort onto the monorail track as an oncoming train approached.
Social media posts from guests at the resort and nearby areas began circulating shortly after the incident, describing emergency vehicles arriving at the property and the Monorail line being temporarily halted.
As of Tuesday evening, Disney officials have not released an official statement regarding the incident. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Guests staying at the Contemporary and nearby resorts reported delays and restricted movement around the affected area as authorities conducted their investigation. The Monorail service between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT experienced temporary disruptions as emergency responders worked at the scene.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed whether the incident is being investigated as an accident or a suicide, though multiple witnesses described the scene as consistent with a suspected jumper.
The Contemporary Resort, one of Walt Disney World’s original hotels, sits adjacent to the Magic Kingdom and features a monorail track that runs directly through the building.
Authorities have urged guests to avoid the area while the investigation remains ongoing.
