A tragic three-vehicle crash Thursday evening south of Hackleburg claimed the life of a local woman and left another person injured, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
The crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. on October 9, 2025, along U.S. 43 near mile marker 287, approximately four miles south of Hackleburg.
Authorities say 50-year-old Kristi C. King, of Hackleburg, was driving a 2014 Jeep Wrangler when her vehicle collided head-on with a 2025 Kia Soul. Prior to that impact, the Kia was reportedly struck by a 2012 Jeep Wrangler, triggering the deadly chain reaction.
King, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Kia Soul sustained injuries and was transported to Russellville Hospital for treatment. The driver of the 2012 Jeep was not reported injured.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
This devastating crash has left the tight-knit Hackleburg community mourning the loss of Kristi King, who friends describe as a kind-hearted and generous woman whose presence will be deeply missed.
