Authorities in Hanover County have identified the woman who died in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning as 31-year-old Megan Michelle Fisher of King William, Virginia. The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office confirmed her identity in a statement released Wednesday, as the community mourns the sudden loss.
Emergency crews responded to the 14800 block of Verdon Road around 7:38 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious collision involving a Subaru and a Toyota Tundra. When deputies arrived, they found both vehicles heavily damaged. Tragically, Fisher, who was driving the Subaru, was pronounced dead at the scene despite swift efforts from first responders.
According to the preliminary investigation, the 2025 Subaru was traveling westbound when it crossed the double yellow center line for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle then collided head-on with an eastbound Toyota Tundra. Two minors riding in the Subaru sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Tundra also suffered injuries but is expected to recover.
Authorities are working to determine what caused the Subaru to drift into the opposing lane. Investigators are reviewing several possible factors, including weather conditions, driver distraction, or mechanical issues. Officials cautioned that it may take time before a definitive cause is established. Crash reconstruction specialists are analyzing skid marks, vehicle positioning, and witness statements to build an accurate account of what occurred.
Residents in the Verdon Road area described the stretch as narrow and winding, with limited visibility in some spots. Several neighbors have expressed concern about morning traffic and speeding along the route. Officials have not yet determined whether road conditions or environmental factors contributed to the crash.
The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office extended its condolences to Fisher’s family and thanked emergency responders for their efforts. “The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Megan Fisher during this difficult time,” the agency said. Authorities reminded drivers to stay alert, avoid distractions, and use caution on rural two-lane roads. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials plan to release further updates as new details become available.
