The Assumption College School (ACS) community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jake Maher, a beloved former football captain, teammate, and friend, who tragically passed away in an accident on Monday, October 6.

Maher, a proud graduate of Assumption College School in Brantford, was remembered by coaches, teammates, and friends as a natural leader both on and off the field. Known for his infectious energy, positivity, and team spirit, Jake left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Former ACS Lions Football coach Jason Nagy expressed his grief in a heartfelt tribute:
“I’ve been having a hard time over the past day after hearing of the tragic passing of a former player. Jake Maher, you were a pleasure to be around, a valued member of Lions Football, a great teammate, and above all, a wonderful person. I enjoyed every moment I spent around you. To Jake’s family, my heart goes out to you. To Jake’s teammates and friends, remember him fondly and cherish the positive impact he had on us all. Jake, you’re missed and will never be forgotten. Rest easy. Once a Lion, always a Lion.”
The ACS Lions Football program also released an emotional statement, describing Jake as “everything you could ask for in a player and a person — a fierce competitor, a true leader, and an incredible teammate who made everyone around him better.”
Maher played a key role in leading the Assumption Senior Football team to victory at the 2023 OFSAA Northern Bowl Championship, cementing his legacy as both a champion and a role model within the program.
“Jake has now become another angel watching over our ACS Football family,” the team’s statement continued.

As the ACS family grieves this immense loss, they remember Jake not only as an outstanding athlete, but as a young man whose warmth and spirit made a difference in every life he touched.
