Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of an 80-year-old Port Allen woman on Monday in West Baton Rouge Parish.
The crash occurred when Janet Tchorlian, 80, reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign while entering an intersection, according to preliminary reports. As she entered the roadway, her vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by another car traveling through the intersection.
Emergency personnel responded quickly to the scene and transported Tchorlian to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Investigators are working to determine all factors that may have contributed to the collision, including speed and driver impairment, though no additional details have been released at this time.
Louisiana State Police remind all drivers to exercise caution at intersections, obey posted traffic signs, and remain alert behind the wheel to prevent tragedies like this from occurring.
The crash remains under active investigation, and additional information will be provided as authorities continue to gather evidence and witness statements.
