The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has identified 21-year-old Jacob Langley as the victim of a tragic crash that sent two vehicles into Lake Neeses on Saturday afternoon.
According to officials, the crash occurred around 1:03 p.m. at Wagener Road and Flowing Wells Road. Jacob was driving a 1991 GMC Sonoma when his vehicle was struck by a 2013 Chevy Silverado while attempting to make a left turn. Both vehicles plunged into the water.
Emergency crews, including a dive team and Couchton Fire Rescue, quickly responded to the scene. Sadly, Jacob Langley was pronounced dead at 1:40 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed next week in Newberry.
The other driver involved in the accident was not seriously injured. Lanes on Wagener Road reopened around 4:30 p.m., with the scene cleared shortly before 5 p.m.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are assisting the Aiken County Coroner’s Office in the ongoing investigation.
Jacob’s untimely passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and community. He will be remembered for his spirit, his presence, and the life he lived in his 21 short years. May he rest in peace.
