It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Kevin Barnes, a beloved truancy officer at Calallen High School, who tragically passed away Friday afternoon after suffering a major heart attack.
According to those close to him, Kevin suddenly collapsed inside his office at the school. His family and co-workers were unaware of any health concerns prior to the incident. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Calallen, where doctors worked tirelessly to save him, but despite their efforts, Kevin sadly passed away.
Kevin was more than just a dedicated school officer — he was a loving father, a source of joy to his children, and a familiar face in the community. Known by many as “DJ Rewind,” he brought laughter, energy, and music wherever he went. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the students whose lives he touched every day.
A community fundraiser to support the Barnes family and help with expenses will be held at Mandy’s Pub & Social on Saturday, October 11th. More than anything, the family asks for continued prayers and support during this heartbreaking time.
Kevin Barnes will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the joy he shared with everyone around him.
