It is with great sadness that we share the passing of 19-year-old Joel Guffey, of Hutchinson, who lost his life in a tragic crash early Friday morning in McPherson County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), the crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. on Interstate 135, about one mile north of Quivera Road. Authorities say the vehicle was traveling southbound when it veered off the roadway. The driver attempted to correct the vehicle’s path, but it rolled multiple times before coming to a stop in the southbound lanes.
Joel, who was a passenger in the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Troopers reported that neither Joel nor the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Joel Guffey was just 19 years old — a young man with a bright future and a caring heart. His loss is deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, laughter, and the love he brought into the lives of others.
