Authorities have identified the University of Virginia student found dead in a campus dormitory on Friday morning as Edmund Jenkins, a first-year student and native of New York, New York.

According to the University of Virginia Police Department, officers were called at around 11 a.m. to a residence hall following reports of an unresponsive person. Emergency responders arrived but tragically confirmed Jenkins deceased at the scene. Law enforcement said the death is being investigated as a suicide.
Jenkins, 18, was a 2025 graduate of Riverdale Country School in New York City and had recently begun his studies at UVA. He was also a Research Intern at Nihon Global Growth Partners Management, Inc., where he had started gaining early professional experience.
The news of his death has shaken the Charlottesville campus community. Students, faculty, and alumni expressed sorrow and support, with members of the UVA Cavaliers football community and the wider university family mourning the loss.
In a statement, the university said:
“We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our own. Our thoughts are with Edmund’s family, friends, and all who knew him. We encourage anyone struggling to reach out for support and to lean on the resources available here at UVA.”
