The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) has confirmed that the victim of Monday’s shooting, 18-year-old Lawrence Wilson, has died from his injuries. The case is now being investigated as a homicide.
Authorities say Wilson was brought to a local hospital just before 4:00 p.m. on September 29, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators have clarified that an individual initially thought to be connected to the shooting was in fact a good Samaritan who helped Wilson get to the hospital.
The incident stemmed from reports earlier that day of shots being fired between two cars in the 13000 block of Miley Niquiporo Road. Shortly after, additional reports came in of shots fired at a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 1064 and Rufus Bankston Road. While no injuries were immediately reported at those scenes, detectives now believe these events are linked to Wilson’s fatal shooting.
TPSO detectives continue to pursue several leads and are urging the public to come forward with any information.
