Charlottesville Man Among Victims in Deadly North Carolina Waterfront Bar Shooting

SOUTHPORT, N.C – A Charlottesville man is among three people killed in a weekend shooting at a popular waterfront restaurant in Southport, North Carolina.

Authorities confirmed that 36-year-old Solomon Banjo, of Charlottesville, was fatally shot Saturday night when a gunman opened fire from a boat at the American Fish Company restaurant.

The other victims have been identified as Joy Rogers, 64, of Southport, and Michael Durbin, 56, of Galena, Ohio.

Banjo, remembered as a dedicated leader in the health care technology field, served as an executive director at Eon and was a graduate of the University of Virginia.

The suspect, Nigel Edge, a decorated Marine veteran and Purple Heart recipient, has been arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder. During a court hearing Monday, prosecutors said Edge suffers from “significant mental health issues” related to a traumatic brain injury.

Edge has not yet entered a plea. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 13.

The Southport Police Department is continuing its investigation and asks anyone with information about the shooting to contact authorities.
