San Diego Police are investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old injured and prompted a lockdown at a local middle school on Tuesday afternoon in the Chollas View neighborhood.
Just before 1 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of 47th Street, not far from Gompers Preparatory Academy. As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown while police searched the area for the suspect.
Authorities confirmed the victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The individual’s name has not yet been released.
The suspect remains at large, and investigators have not provided a description. It is unclear what led to the shooting or whether the victim and suspect knew each other.
Parents and residents in the area expressed concern after news of the lockdown spread, though police emphasized that students and staff inside the school were safe during the incident.
The investigation remains active, and police are asking anyone with information to contact San Diego Crime Stoppers or call the department’s non-emergency line.
