Southport, NC – Chaos erupted Saturday night at the Southport Yacht Basin after a suspect opened fire from a moving boat into a crowd near the American Fish Company restaurant, a popular waterfront spot. The incident occurred around 9:50 p.m., according to an official statement from the City of Southport.
City officials reported “an unknown number of injuries” and confirmed that the suspect had not been apprehended as of 10:30 p.m. Residents were urged to remain indoors, avoid the yacht basin area, and report any suspicious activity to 911.
City Manager Noah Saldo described the scene, stating that a boat pulled up to the restaurant, and the shooter fired directly into the crowd before fleeing the area. Multiple victims were transported to nearby hospitals, though officials have not yet disclosed the total number of injured or their conditions.
Authorities are actively searching the area, including both land and waterways, as the investigation remains ongoing. Police have not yet determined whether the attack was random or targeted.
