WENATCHEE, Wash. — Chelan County authorities have confirmed that Travis Decker, accused of killing his three daughters, is deceased. Sheriff Mike Morrison announced Thursday that DNA testing positively matched human remains found on Grindstone Mountain to 32-year-old Decker, bringing an end to the largest manhunt in Chelan County history.
The remains, discovered on September 19 at approximately 4,000 feet in elevation, were accompanied by personal items belonging to Decker. While the cause, manner, and exact time of his death remain under investigation by the Chelan County Coroner’s Office, Morrison confirmed that Decker succumbed to injuries of an undetermined nature.
Decker had been the primary suspect in the deaths of his daughters—Paityn (5), Evelyn (8), and Olivia (9)—whose bodies were found in June near Rock Island Campground. Investigators determined the cause of death for each child was suffocation, and all were ruled homicides.
Sheriff Morrison emphasized that there are no other suspects and expressed gratitude to the community for their patience and support throughout the months-long investigation. “These were Travis Decker’s remains. He did not take anyone else up there with him,” Morrison said. He extended condolences to Decker’s family while highlighting the closure the community can now begin to find.
The tragic case has left lasting sorrow in the community, with continued support for the victims’ mother and those affected by this devastating series of events.
