Kentucky State Police (KSP) are investigating a fatal collision involving a semi-truck and sedan that claimed the life of an Arkansas woman late wednesday night near Dawson Springs.
The victim has been identified as Julia Jones, 64, of Blue Mountain, Arkansas. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner’s Office. The Yell County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas assisted in notifying her family.
The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Interstate 69 northbound near the 92-mile marker after the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office requested KSP assistance. According to the preliminary investigation, a semi-truck and trailer driven by Jose Tovar-Silva, 51, of Sanluis Potosi, Mexico, was traveling southbound when a northbound sedan, operated by Jones, reportedly crossed the median and entered his lane, resulting in a collision.
Tovar-Silva was not injured in the crash. Authorities confirmed no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
Detective Jacob Stephens of the Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
