A tragic crash in Maplewood claimed the life of 1-year-old Revon Melvin Anthony Todd of Saint Paul after an SUV rolled off a highway ramp last Saturday evening.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:25 p.m. on the eastbound Highway 36 ramp to southbound Highway 61. Investigators said a black Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling at high speed when the driver lost control, veered off the roadway, and rolled into a ditch. The SUV came to rest upside down, partially submerged in one to two feet of water.
First responders pulled baby Revon from beneath the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four others inside the Tahoe were injured and transported to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Among them was the driver, 28-year-old Rachale Francine Peloquin of Saint Paul, along with a 6-year-old boy, a 5-year-old boy, and a 32-year-old man.
Troopers reported that alcohol was a factor in the crash. It remains unclear who among the occupants may have been wearing a seat belt.
The highway ramp remained closed for several hours as crews reconstructed the accident and cleared the scene. Authorities have not announced any arrests or charges at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
