A tragic single-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 in Alexandria claimed the life of a Maryland woman early Sunday morning. Virginia State Police reported that 34-year-old Tyneeka L. Strickland of Capitol Heights, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene after her 2017 Cadillac XTS went off the left side of westbound I-495 at the 177-mile marker around 5:15 a.m. on August 31.
Authorities say the vehicle struck a guardrail and an exit sign before becoming airborne and landing in a ditch. Strickland was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which likely contributed to the severity of her injuries.
Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the exact cause. No other vehicles were involved, and there have been no reports of additional injuries.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of wearing seatbelts and driving with caution, especially on busy highways. Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Virginia State Police.
