Authorities have apprehended a driver in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 26-year-old Stefhany Reconco-Rosales over the weekend.
Edwin Serrano, 46, faces charges for leaving the scene of a fatal crash after striking Reconco-Rosales on Sunday morning near the 3400 block of Northwest 32nd Avenue. Deputies say Serrano was driving a 2017 Cadillac Escalade when he struck Reconco-Rosales, who was walking eastbound on Northwest 35th Street, propelling her into the roadway. She was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured Serrano slowing briefly, then accelerating away from the scene. Investigators later located his vehicle in Miami, and Serrano voluntarily surrendered to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Monday. He exercised his right to legal counsel and declined to comment.
