Authorities have identified the woman who died earlier this month after being struck by a vehicle in Northwest Portland. The Portland Police Bureau confirmed the victim as 60-year-old Patsy Leigh Miller, a resident of Portland.
The incident occurred late Sunday, August 3, around 11:20 p.m. at the intersection of Northwest Yeon Avenue and Northwest 44th Avenue. Responding officers found Miller critically injured at the scene. She was transported to a nearby hospital, but despite emergency efforts, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
Police confirmed that the driver involved in the collision stayed at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. The driver’s name has not been released, and no arrests or citations have been issued at this time. Authorities have not yet determined whether factors such as speed, impairment, or distracted driving played a role.
The investigation remains ongoing, with traffic investigators working to reconstruct the crash and analyze evidence to understand what led to the collision.
Miller’s death adds to Portland’s growing concerns about traffic safety, particularly involving pedestrians and vulnerable road users. Fatal crashes along heavily traveled corridors like Yeon Avenue have sparked calls for greater safety measures in recent years.
Community members have expressed condolences to Miller’s family, emphasizing the ripple effect tragedies like this leave behind. Police say additional updates will be released once their investigation is complete and any decisions regarding charges are made.
