His loss has sent waves of grief throughout the Worcester State community and far beyond, touching teammates, classmates, coaches, and friends who were fortunate enough to know him.
“Evan was an incredible student-athlete and beloved teammate. He will be greatly missed by our entire campus community,” said Athletic Director Michael Mudd. “Our thoughts are with the Armit family at this difficult time.”
Evan joined the Lancers Men’s Ice Hockey program two years ago and quickly became a vital member of the team. He was pursuing a degree in Business Administration, balancing the demands of academics with the commitment and intensity that collegiate athletics require.
His passion for hockey was lifelong, with a career that included time with the Winnipeg Freeze (MJHL) and the Islanders Hockey Club (USPHL) before arriving at Worcester State. Teammates and coaches often described Evan as a player who gave everything he had each time he laced up his skates.
But Evan’s influence stretched far beyond the rink. Known for his work ethic, generosity, and unwavering character, he was a natural leader whose presence lifted those around him.
He lived by example, choosing humility over ego, kindness over recognition, and perseverance over defeat. Whether encouraging a teammate, supporting a friend, or bringing laughter to the locker room, Evan made a lasting impression.
“Evan embodied the very best qualities of a teammate and a friend—hardworking, humble, and selfless,” said Worcester State Head Coach Jay Punsky. “He carried himself with quiet strength and treated everyone with kindness, never losing sight of the importance of family and friendship.
His joy was infectious, and his spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Though his time with us was far too brief, Evan leaves behind a legacy of heart, humility, and purpose.”
Evan’s final months revealed his extraordinary resilience. Confronted with a devastating diagnosis, he showed the same courage and determination he brought to the ice.
He inspired many with his openness about his fight against melanoma, using his journey to raise awareness and encourage others to cherish life’s moments and never take health for granted.
The Worcester State community, along with the broader hockey family, has rallied together to support Evan’s loved ones. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, his teammates, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
