Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was fatally stabbed in Melbourne’s southeast early Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called to Potter Street in Dandenong just before 5 a.m., following reports of an assault near a petrol station. Upon arrival, they found a man with critical injuries. Despite efforts from paramedics, the victim died at the scene around 4:50 a.m.
Detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and have not yet released details about the victim’s identity or whether any suspects have been identified.
The area was cordoned off for several hours as forensic officers examined the scene. Authorities have urged anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or has dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
“Investigators are keeping an open mind as to what led to this incident,” police said in a statement.
