SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

Police have since identified the survivor as 31-year-old Maradona Yalda, a figure with alleged links to Sydney’s criminal underworld and known to have a price on his head. Yalda was rushed to hospital in a serious condition but is expected to survive.

His companion, Gilbert Admon Shino, 39, was not as fortunate. Shino died at the scene after being struck multiple times when the hotel was sprayed with bullets around 6:40 p.m. Authorities believe Shino, who was known to police but not a key target, may have simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Witnesses reported that the pair had spent the afternoon inside the pub before gunmen lying in wait launched their attack. The brazen shooting has left the Forest Lodge community shaken.

Emergency services responded quickly, establishing a crime scene and cordoning off Wigram Road and surrounding streets as specialist police units combed the area. Detectives have confirmed there will be an increased police presence across the Inner West as investigations continue.

Police are appealing to the public for information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, that may help track down the shooters. Anyone with information is urged to contact Glebe Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Shino’s grieving family has released a statement mourning his sudden death:

“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Gilbert Admon Shino, taken from us far too soon.”

Condolences will be accepted at St Mary’s Assyrian Church of the East, 92/94 Polding Street, Smithfield, NSW, on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Police investigations are ongoing into what is now the latest in a string of violent incidents linked to Sydney’s criminal underworld.
