Police: 16-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot at Back-to-School Pool Party in Covina

COVINA, Calif. (KABC) — A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Saturday night at a back-to-school pool party in Covina, police confirmed to Eyewitness News on Sunday.

According to the Covina Police Department, officers began getting calls about gunshots near the area of 600 E. Camellia Drive around 10:15 p.m.

Witnesses said a home in the area was hosting an open invite swimming party. When officers got to the scene, they came across a large group of partygoers running in the street.

The teen, who’s believed to be from La Puente, was found shot and was immediately rushed to a local hospital where he later died. Investigators believe he was shot by someone who may have known him.

The suspect remains at large, according to police.

Video obtained by Eyewitness News shows two people being detained by police officers, though further information from police was not immediately available.

The footage also shows a gun lying next to an evidence marker on the street.

No other injuries were reported.
