Stoke Newington High Street in Hackney is currently closed following reports of a shooting. The road was shut to both vehicles and pedestrians sometime between midnight and 1 a.m., according to traffic monitoring service Inrix.
The closure spans from Amhurst Road to Kynaston Avenue, disrupting traffic flow towards Dalston and Finsbury Park. Officers from the Metropolitan Police are present in the area, with some stationed outside Sainsbury’s and Stoke Newington Methodist Church. The police have not yet provided details about the shooting, and neither have emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service.
Currently, traffic remains light, although there is some congestion forming on Rectory Road, which runs parallel to the High Street. Several bus routes, including the 67, 76, 149, 243, and 276, are being diverted due to the closure.
At this stage, authorities have not disclosed the nature of the incident, and the police are continuing to investigate. The Metropolitan Police and the London Ambulance Service will release more information.
