Sarasota, FL – Authorities have released additional details surrounding a tragic murder-suicide that occurred early Tuesday morning behind a business on Cattleman Road. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as Mandy Coxwell, 33, and Cameron Marsh, also 33, both residents of Sarasota.
Deputies responded to a 911 call around 6:27 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, reporting the discovery of two bodies behind a commercial property located at 4092 Cattleman Road. Upon arrival, law enforcement found the bodies of Coxwell and Marsh beneath a semi-truck trailer in the loading bay area.
Three bullet casings and a handgun were located near the scene.
According to findings from the medical examiner’s autopsy, Coxwell died of a gunshot wound to the head. Marsh sustained fatal self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the chin and neck. Based on physical evidence and autopsy results, the incident has been officially ruled a murder-suicide.
Workers at nearby businesses told investigators that both Coxwell and Marsh were known in the area and had been seen panhandling and seeking shelter behind buildings and beneath trailers in recent weeks.
Deputies have since notified the next of kin. While the case is considered closed from a criminal standpoint, the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to understand the events and circumstances that led to the fatal encounter.
