What an incredible story of dedication and service! Senior Sergeant Jeff Lansdown’s career is truly commendable.
Walking into the Police Academy on 15 August 1988 was the start of a 37-year career with the Queensland Police Service (QPS). After being sworn in on 3 March 1989 with his wife-to-be, Deborah, who was also in the same squad, it was heart-warming to see his final shift spent alongside his life partner and their son, Bryce, who is also a police officer. He also has two amazing daughters who he is equally proud of.
It’s a testament to the Lansdown family’s commitment to public safety and justice.
Senior Sergeant Lansdown has dedicated his entire service to being a first response general duties officer and has worked at City Station, Holland Park, Chermside, North Brisbane District and Moreton District. Senior Sergeant Lansdown chose to stay in the blue as he felt it was where he could best achieve what he set out to do, which was “to make the place where we all live a better and safer community”, he said.
Wednesday, 23 July, was the last day that Senior Sergeant Lansdown kitted up to serve his Moreton community. The unpredictability of the job, as highlighted by his adrenaline-filled last shift, underscores the challenges police officers face daily. It was an honour and privilege to do so in the company of his wife Deb and son Bryce.

During the course of the day, the family trio were tasked to respond to a dangerous driving incident on the Bruce Highway in Murrumba Downs.
Even on his final shift, Senior Sergeant Lansdown remained steadfast in his duty, contributing to the apprehension of the alleged offenders, despite the risks involved.
It was a fitting end to a long and distinguished career.
Sergeant Deb Lansdown, who works in Intelligence, agrees that there is never a dull moment being married to a police officer.
“There have been many highs and lows. Over the last 37 years we have been a sounding board for each other for various jobs which I believe has helped both of us navigate through the emotions that police officers experience daily. It was important for Jeff to debrief (he loves to tell a good long story),” she said.
“Communication is essential for your emotional survival,” she said.
“Being in general duties his entire career, Jeff has seen and heard it all. I am extremely proud of him and look forward to seeing him unwind and enjoy his well-deserved retirement, fishing, jet skiing and mountain bike riding,” Sergeant Lansdown said.

Plain Clothes Senior Constable Bryce Lansdown from City Criminal Investigation Branch has nine years’ service and is very proud of his dad. Having both parents as officers certainly influenced his decision to join the QPS.
“Dad was always someone I looked up to. After hearing all his stories, I couldn’t help but apply and join the job back in 2016. Seeing his professionalism, how much he was respected by colleagues, and working with dad on his last day definitely made me proud to be his son,” he said.

“Policing is a rollercoaster and has its low lights as well as its highs,” Senior Sergeant Lansdown said. All can be experienced in one shift, many times over.
The loss of colleagues, whether it be in the line of duty or by other causes, is always challenging and has resonated for Senior Sergeant Lansdown.
However, ultimately serving the community and keeping them and his colleagues safe has always been paramount for Senior Sergeant Lansdown.
“I am very proud to have been a Queensland police officer for the past 37 years. I will miss being a police officer, the friendships, the chats, the camaraderie and being involved in making the place we live a better and safer place,” he said.
“I have no regrets, and I will miss the very many great men and women I have had the privilege of working alongside for such a long time.”

His 37 years’ service demonstrates his life-long commitment to community safety, during which time he has achieved amazing things, experienced the highs and lows of policing, and led and mentored many officers. We thank Jeff for his service and wish him all the best in retirement,” Moreton District Officer Chief Superintendent Adam Guild said.
