Calgary’s radio community is devastated following the heartbreaking news of the passing of Matt O’Neill, a cherished voice and veteran broadcaster with over 25 years of industry experience. Known for his warmth, wit, and unmistakable presence on Calgary’s JACK FM, Matt was more than just a morning show host—he was a friend to countless listeners who began their days with his signature humor, insight, and heart.
His passion marked Matt’s career as a connector with people, both on and off the air. As host of the HockeyXtra Show and a staple at Rogers Communications’ JackFM (Rock97), he brought energy, laughter, and authenticity to every broadcast. Beyond the microphone, he was a mentor to aspiring broadcasters, a leader in his industry, and a tireless advocate for community engagement and client-focused storytelling.
His longtime colleague Eric Francis paid tribute, saying, “It is with the heaviest of hearts I report my longtime radio partner, Matt O’Neill, has passed away. He was a talented broadcaster, a great friend, and a loving father who made so many Calgarians laugh, cry, and ponder.”
Matt leaves behind two beloved children and a city deeply grateful for the joy he brought into their lives. He will be profoundly missed.
