Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are actively investigating a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred in Coram on the evening of Saturday, July 20, which left one man in critical condition and injured two others.
According to police, the collision occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Route 112 and County Road 83. Roger Luo, 36, of Fresh Meadows, Queens, was operating a 2022 Honda Accord traveling southbound on Route 112 when he collided with a 2003 GMC Yukon that was heading northeast on CR-83. The impact of the crash caused the Yukon to overturn and subsequently catch fire.
Responding officers from the Sixth Precinct arrived quickly at the scene and found Luo unconscious and trapped inside his vehicle. Officers were able to extract him from the wreckage and immediately began performing CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived. Luo was then transported via ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition as of the latest reports.
The GMC Yukon was driven by 48-year-old Todd Fontana of Coram. His 16-year-old daughter, Roxy Fontana, a resident of Kannapolis, North Carolina, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Both were successfully removed from the burning SUV by patrol officers who acted swiftly to extinguish the fire. Todd and Roxy Fontana were also transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, but fortunately, they are being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
