It is with broken hearts and immense sorrow that we announce the passing of Finnian “Finn” Thomas Cronin, 18, of Edina, Minnesota, who died on July 1 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Finn succumbed to injuries sustained in a tragic car accident that occurred on the night of June 14 on Highway 149 in Eagan, where three vehicles were involved in a suspected street racing incident.
Finn was a passenger in a Jeep SUV that collided with a light pole around 11:15 p.m. after the vehicle reportedly crossed into oncoming lanes while heading south on Hwy. 149.
The crash was one of two that happened simultaneously during what authorities have described as a dangerous street race between three drivers. Tragically, the driver of the SUV, Reed Robert Schultz, 19, of Savage, died at the scene.
Another vehicle—a Honda sedan—veered off the road into a ditch. Its driver, Jordan John Wieland, 20, of White Bear Lake, survived with noncritical injuries and is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Finn fought valiantly for over two weeks at Regions Hospital, but the severity of his injuries proved insurmountable. His passing has sent waves of grief through the Edina community and beyond, where he was known and loved for his gentle nature, his bright mind, and his deep empathy.
A recent graduate of Edina High School, Finn had a promising future ahead of him. He was the kind of young man who left a lasting impression on those around him—with a quiet wisdom beyond his years, a deep love for his family, and an ever-curious mind.
Whether it was through academics, friendships, or simple everyday kindness, Finn had a way of making the world feel softer and more hopeful. He is remembered by family, friends, classmates, and teachers as a compassionate soul with a contagious smile and a kind heart.
His interests ranged from music and literature to skateboarding and photography. He was thoughtful, introspective, and always ready to lend a listening ear. Finn’s family has asked for privacy as they grieve this devastating loss and prepare to honor his life.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days. In the meantime, they have expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, love, and prayers from friends, neighbors, and the wider community.
As the investigation continues, the tragic circumstances of the crash serve as a heartbreaking reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the fragility of life. What was likely intended as a night of thrill-seeking ended in irreversible loss, forever changing the lives of those involved and those who loved Finn.
Finnian Thomas Cronin’s life was a gift to all who knew him. Though his time was short, the impact he made will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed, eternally loved, and always remembered.
